The United States Supreme Court has been petitioned to make a decisive judgment on whether Donald Trump can face prosecution for purported crimes committed during his tenure as president. Jack Smith, the special counsel overseeing two criminal investigations involving Mr. Trump, formally requested the court’s prompt determination on the issue of his immunity from federal prosecution. The Supreme Court has since acknowledged this request and instructed Mr. Trump’s legal team to submit a response by December 20.

Although the justices did not provide a clear timeline or method for their final decision, they have initiated the process of considering this significant legal matter. Donald Trump, aged 77, is currently slated to undergo a federal trial in March, facing charges related to an alleged plot to overturn the 2020 election results.
