The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) fined Germany-based Lufthansa $4 million, accusing the airline of discriminatory practices for denying 128 Jewish passengers from boarding a connecting flight in May 2022. The incident occurred after a group of Jewish passengers was barred from boarding a flight in Germany following alleged misconduct by some passengers on the initial flight from New York.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also announced a new DOT rule mandating refunds for passengers affected by delayed or canceled flights, further enforcing the department’s commitment to passenger rights.
