Beijing is accelerating its push for tech independence by investing tens of millions of dollars in the Yizhuang Development Zone to build a Nvidia-free AI ecosystem. Targeting an industry worth 80 billion yuan, the initiative relies solely on domestic semiconductors, operating systems, and open-source frameworks. It includes developing RISC-V chips, building powerful AI server clusters, and funding innovation in quantum and biological computing. Up to 20 million yuan in subsidies will support AI startups and data centers. Part of China’s “AI Plus” plan, the move aims to integrate AI into sectors like robotics, healthcare, and smart manufacturing while countering U.S. export restrictions.
