Belarus has pledged to stop weather balloons drifting into Lithuania after repeated incidents disrupted flights at Vilnius airport and fueled accusations of a “hybrid attack.” US envoy John Coale said President Alexander Lukashenko promised to take all possible steps to end the launches, which are often linked to cigarette smuggling. Lithuania has declared a state of emergency and requested military support for border forces, citing national security concerns. While Lukashenko claims the issue is being exaggerated, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned that the situation at the border is worsening and described the balloon incursions as unacceptable.
