Two U.S. border inspectors stationed at San Ysidro Port of Entry in Southern California have been charged with accepting bribes to allow undocumented individuals into the United States. Officers Farlis Almonte and Ricardo Rodriguez allegedly collaborated with human traffickers in Mexico, allowing dozens of vehicles carrying undocumented passengers to cross the border in exchange for thousands of dollars per vehicle. Phone records, unexplained cash deposits, and surveillance footage supported the charges. One officer may face additional money laundering charges. This case adds to a growing number of corruption cases involving border officers in the San Diego region over the past two years.
