China is accelerating construction on the Mohmand Hydropower Project in Pakistan after India threatened to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty following a deadly attack in Kashmir. The dam, a flagship infrastructure project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, is critical for Pakistan’s water and energy security. The project aims to generate 800MW of power and supply drinking water to millions. India’s retaliatory stance has raised regional water security fears, prompting a strong response from Islamabad.
