A wrongful death lawsuit filed by Connie Aguilar claims Royal Caribbean is responsible for the death of her fiancé, 35-year-old Michael Virgil, who died during a December 2024 voyage on the Navigator of the Seas. The suit alleges crew members served Virgil at least 33 alcoholic drinks, despite clear signs of intoxication, and later tackled and restrained him with full body weight after he became disoriented while searching for his cabin. According to the filing, crew used a sedative and pepper spray at the captain’s direction, causing respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. Aguilar argues the cruise line failed to protect Virgil, over-served alcohol, and lacked properly trained medical personnel.
