Hundreds of Danish veterans staged a silent protest outside the US Embassy in Copenhagen, expressing anger over recent remarks by the US administration that dismissed allied combat contributions and questioned Greenland’s right to self-determination. Marching from the historic Kastellet fortress, veterans carried Danish flags to honor fallen soldiers who served alongside US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Fifty-two flags were planted, each bearing the name of a serviceman killed in conflict, as names were read aloud in an emotional tribute. Protesters said the statements ignored Denmark’s sacrifices and its critical role in Arctic security. Veterans’ groups described the comments as hurtful, particularly for those suffering from PTSD, noting that Denmark suffered the highest per-capita casualties among coalition forces in Afghanistan.
