The U.S. Army has deployed the Directed Energy Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (DE M-SHORAD) to the Middle East, equipped with a 50-kilowatt RTX laser on a Stryker vehicle. Designed to counter drones, rockets, and artillery, the system demonstrated a 100% success rate in June 2024 tests.
Initial prototypes were field-tested in CENTCOM operations, showcasing air mobility and in-theater maintenance capabilities. The deployment addresses the increasing drone threat, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional interceptors and advancing directed energy weaponry for future battlefield applications.
