The United States military conducted a lethal strike on an alleged drug-trafficking boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing two people and leaving one survivor, U.S. Southern Command said. The attack on January 23 marked the first known naval strike since U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom Washington accuses of drug-linked criminal activity. Intelligence reported the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified to initiate search and rescue for the survivor. This action is part of an ongoing campaign of maritime strikes aimed at disrupting illegal drug flows in the region.
