The United States has solidified its position as the world’s largest arms exporter, with Europe now its primary customer. According to SIPRI data, the US accounted for 43% of global arms exports between 2020 and 2024—more than four times France’s share. This marks a sharp rise from 35% in the previous five years. For the first time in two decades, US arms exports to Europe have surpassed those to the Middle East, driven largely by NATO’s increased reliance on American-made weaponry. The data underscores Europe’s growing dependence on both US arms and military support amid rising geopolitical tensions.
