Since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed due to Israeli military action in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. As of Thursday, the death toll stands at 40,005, which is approximately 1.7% of Gaza’s 2.3 million population, highlighting the severe human cost of the conflict.

In addition to the fatalities, satellite image analysis indicates that nearly 60% of buildings in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed since the war began. The southern city of Rafah has experienced the most significant damage in recent months, according to imagery.

The ministry’s figures do not distinguish between civilian and fighter casualties.
