India’s Earth observation satellite EOS-09 was lost after a third-stage malfunction in the PSLV rocket during launch from Satish Dhawan Space Centre. Despite a smooth liftoff, the mission failed around six minutes in, when the third stage encountered an issue. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan confirmed the anomaly in a public statement and assured a thorough investigation. EOS-09 was equipped with a synthetic aperture radar to enhance surveillance along borders. This was the PSLV’s 63rd flight and only its third failure in 32 years. Though a setback, ISRO remains committed to learning from the incident and improving future missions.
