China’s PLA Air Force has conducted high-intensity combat drills featuring J-10C fighters operating under complex electromagnetic conditions. These exercises highlight advanced integration with KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft, as well as ground-based air defence and electronic warfare systems. Military expert Zhang Junshe emphasized that the J-10C has evolved from a standalone fighter into part of a broader system-of-systems warfare approach. The KJ-500 plays a critical role by detecting targets at long ranges and sharing real-time data, allowing J-10C pilots to engage enemies while minimizing radar exposure. Reports also suggest simulated engagements where J-10C jets, supported by KJ-500, successfully targeted stealth aircraft. Despite questions over realism, these drills demonstrate improved coordination, situational awareness, and multi-layered combat capability, strengthening the PLA’s modern aerial warfare strategy and enhancing operational effectiveness in both offensive and defensive scenarios.
