South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived at the White House, where he is being welcomed by U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting is officially described as a trade engagement, though South Africa has emphasized its goal to “reframe bilateral, economic, and commercial relations.” Tensions between the two countries have escalated in recent months. In February, Trump halted U.S. aid to South Africa over alleged mistreatment of its White minority. The diplomatic strain deepened in March when the U.S. expelled South Africa’s ambassador. Both leaders are expected to address these issues during the talks, alongside discussions on future economic cooperation.
