A day of mourning has been declared in Kharkiv, Ukraine, after Russian bomb attacks killed at least eight civilians, including a child in a playground. On Friday, Moscow launched five guided aerial bombs on the city, killing six people and injuring at least 97 others, including 24 children. Among the victims was 14-year-old Sofia, who died in a playground, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The violence continued on Saturday, when Russian forces struck the village of Cherkaska Lozova in Kharkiv, killing two more people and injuring at least 10, including two children.
“These horrific, cowardly Russian strikes targeted ordinary homes and a city park. Russia will be held accountable for all its evil deeds,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following the attacks, urging Western allies to increase military support.
