Senior Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev is set to visit Washington this week for talks with top Trump administration official Steve Witkoff, aiming to strengthen US-Russia relations and discuss a potential resolution to the Ukraine war. His visit marks the first by a senior Russian official to Washington since Russia’s 2022 invasion. Dmitriev, a close adviser to Putin, previously played a role in freeing American teacher Marc Fogel. The US temporarily lifted sanctions against him to grant a visa. Trump, frustrated with both Putin and Zelensky, has hinted at a settlement favoring Russia. Meanwhile, Putin rejected Trump’s ceasefire call, demanding US sanctions be lifted.
