US President Donald Trump declared that 600,000 Chinese students would be welcome in America, but his own Republican Party is pressuring schools to cut ties with China. Temple University, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, and Tennessee have ended their partnerships with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) after Congressman John Moolenaar raised security concerns. The move follows earlier remarks by Secretary of State Marco Rubio about revoking visas of students linked to China’s Communist Party. While Trump insists on openness, the dismantling of academic partnerships raises doubts over whether Chinese students will still be able to study in the US.
