The US Supreme Court will decide if a federal law bars Mexico from suing gun distributors for allegedly enabling firearms to reach drug cartels. On Friday, the court agreed to review a lower court ruling that revived the case after it was initially dismissed under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which generally shields gun manufacturers from civil liability for crimes committed with their products.

The court also added 12 other cases for its upcoming term, including disputes over reverse discrimination, nuclear waste storage, and DNA testing for a death row inmate. Other previously accepted cases involve Biden’s ‘ghost guns’ regulation and vaping laws. This will be the court’s first session since its 6-3 conservative majority granted criminal immunity to Trump in July and limited federal agency power.
