US President Donald Trump announced that European leaders may visit Washington early this week to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. While Trump hinted at upcoming talks, EU officials denied that Commission President Ursula von der Leyen or other top EU leaders had travel plans, stressing she will deliver her State of the Union address as scheduled. Trump also revealed plans for new sanctions on Russia and an upcoming call with President Vladimir Putin. Following Russia’s largest aerial attack on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged tougher actions, while US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called for joint US-EU secondary sanctions to cripple Russia’s economy.
