The Home Office has announced that extreme misogyny will be treated as a form of extremism under new government plans. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has ordered a review of the UK’s counter-extremism strategy to determine the best approach to addressing threats from harmful ideologies.
The review will examine hatred of women as one of the ideological trends that the government believes is gaining traction. Cooper noted an increase in extremism “both online and on our streets,” which she said “frays the very fabric of our communities and our democracy.”
