India has achieved a significant milestone in its nuclear energy journey, with installed capacity now surpassing 8,800 MW across 25 reactors in seven locations, according to the Ministry of Power. This accounts for about three percent of the nation’s total power generation. The country is accelerating its nuclear development, with 13 GW in progress — 6,600 MW under construction and 7,000 MW in pre-project stages. Aiming for 100 GW by 2047 under the “Viksit Bharat @2047” initiative, the government is implementing reforms such as amending key nuclear laws, enabling private participation, fast-tracking land acquisition, and offering tax and financial incentives to ensure growth and competitive tariffs.
