Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) arrested a man on Tuesday, alleging his involvement in spreading disinformation that is believed to have contributed to the recent unrest in the UK.
According to a statement shared with CNN, the FIA claimed that an X account user shared images from a video concerning an incident that took place in Southport, England. The same user further posted an article on the website, with a caption stating that a 17-year-old had been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident in Southport.
However, the FIA asserted that the article falsely claimed the arrest of a Muslim asylum seeker by police at a dance party in Southport on July 29, 2024. The FIA confirmed that while the man has been arrested, he has not yet been charged.
