Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on Friday, just over a month after his visit to Moscow.

This visit, Modi’s first to Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022, is also the first by an Indian leader to Ukraine in nearly 30 years.

As India maintains close ties with Moscow, Modi’s visit to Ukraine is seen as a diplomatic balancing act between Kyiv and its Western allies. The visit comes on the eve of Ukrainian Independence Day, with Modi engaging in talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
