NATO is facing heightened tension following a stark warning from Germany’s top intelligence chief. Martin Jäger, head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND), cautioned against any sense of complacency, emphasizing that the threat from Russia is not a distant possibility but an unfolding reality.
“We must reject the idea that a Russian offensive is years away, possibly not before 2029. The confrontation has already begun,” Jäger stated, calling for constant military readiness and strategic vigilance.
The warning came as Germany’s top intelligence leaders — BND chief Martin Jäger, Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) head Martina Rosenberg, and Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution chief Sinan Selen — appeared before the Parliamentary Control Committee. The meeting underscored growing concerns across NATO about regional security, intelligence preparedness, and escalating geopolitical risks.
