Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, during meetings in Washington, emphasized strengthening trade relations with the US and addressing trade imbalances. Pakistan aims to import more American goods like cotton and soybean. Aurangzeb discussed expanding Pakistan’s currency swap with China by 10 billion yuan to bolster foreign reserves. Talks also covered debt rescheduling with China and progress toward issuing Pakistan’s first Panda Bond. Additionally, Pakistan is awaiting IMF approval for a $1.3bn climate resilience loan and a $1bn disbursement under its existing bailout. Aurangzeb also addressed tensions with India over the Indus Waters Treaty.
