Pakistan will launch its first Panda Bond later this year, marking its entry into China’s debt market. Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed this strategic move during a post-budget press conference in Islamabad. Simultaneously, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to meet a $500 million Eurobond repayment due in September 2025, with another installment planned for 2026. The Panda Bond, backed by support from ADB and AIIB through credit enhancements, aims to diversify funding sources. Pakistan also plans to return to euro and US dollar bond markets by 2026, aligning with efforts to restore investor confidence and stabilize its economy ahead of new IMF negotiations.
