Russia has revoked the accreditation of six British diplomats, accusing them of espionage, a move that was reported by Russian state media on Friday amid rising geopolitical tensions. The expulsion comes as the UK and the US weigh the possibility of permitting Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia alleged that the diplomats were involved in “intelligence and subversive work” against Moscow, although it did not provide evidence to support these claims. The FSB stated that the diplomats’ actions were seen as “threatening the security of the Russian Federation.”

The British government later clarified that the expulsion took place last month and dismissed the allegations as “completely baseless.” The expelled diplomats had already left Russia weeks ago, and the UK is now in the process of replacing them.
