The UAE is set to phase out physical Emirates ID cards with the introduction of a cutting-edge biometric digital ID system. This initiative, led by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), will enhance identity verification through facial recognition and biometric data. Accessible via official apps like UAEPASS and ICP UAE, the e-Emirates ID will allow users to securely store their ID on mobile devices. The digital ID will streamline access to services in banking, healthcare, telecom, hospitality, and more, offering greater convenience to residents, travelers, and service providers. The rollout is expected within a year and marks a major step in the UAE’s digital transformation efforts.
