Ukraine launched a massive drone offensive named Operation “Spiderweb,” striking four major Russian airbases deep inside the country, reportedly destroying over 40 aircraft including strategic bombers and an A-50 surveillance plane. The unprecedented attack, using 117 drones launched from disguised trucks inside Russia, caused an estimated $7 billion in damage. President Zelensky praised the operation’s precision, calling it “absolutely unique.” The strikes came just before scheduled peace talks in Istanbul, as tensions escalate following Russia’s own record drone attack days earlier. U.S. officials acknowledged the operation’s sophistication but were not given prior notice.
