The United States and Denmark face rising diplomatic tensions over Greenland, but NATO remains strong, according to Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds. Speaking to Euronews, Sprūds dismissed fears of a NATO breakdown, stressing that internal disagreements have long existed without harming collective defence. He emphasized the strategic importance of Greenland in Arctic security while reaffirming that the island remains an integral part of the Danish Kingdom. The US, under President Donald Trump, continues to argue that control of Greenland is vital for national security in the Arctic region. Latvia, alongside key European allies, has expressed readiness to participate in Arctic defence exercises if requested. The European Commission confirmed Denmark’s right to invoke EU mutual defence in case of an armed attack on Greenland.
