North Korea has revealed an advanced 8,700-ton nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, signaling a major leap in its strategic deterrence capabilities. Personally overseen by Kim Jong-un, the submarine is believed to carry up to 10 nuclear-armed SLBMs and operate for decades using highly enriched uranium fuel. Analysts warn that new missile systems could place the U.S. mainland within strike range, reshaping regional and global security dynamics. While South Korea plans to develop nuclear-powered submarines using low-enriched fuel and without nuclear weapons, deployment is not expected until the mid-2030s, leaving North Korea with a potential strategic advantage in undersea nuclear warfare.
