Rachael Gunn, known in the breaking world as Raygun, has issued an apology to the breaking community following the backlash from her performance at the Paris Olympics last month.
Gunn, who became a viral sensation for her unconventional dance moves during the Games, spoke on the Australian current affairs show ‘The Project’ on Wednesday. She expressed her regret, stating, “I am very sorry for the backlash that the community has experienced because of my performance.”
The 37-year-old university lecturer faced tough competition in her Olympic debut, losing all her battles against breakers from the United States, France, and Lithuania, scoring 0 points and losing 18-0 in each of her three rounds.
Her performance included unique moves such as a kangaroo hop, a backward roll, and various contortions performed while lying or crawling on the floor. Despite the criticism, Gunn defended her style in the interview, describing it as “just a different approach” to breaking.
