Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly rejected surrendering the Donbas region to Russia, warning it would serve as a “springboard” for future offensives and risk triggering a third war. His stance comes ahead of a Trump–Putin summit in Alaska, where territorial concessions may be discussed as part of a peace deal. Zelensky insists no proposal has guaranteed security or prevented further Russian aggression, stressing that any talks must include the European Union for credible safety assurances. The White House calls the meeting a “listening exercise,” but tensions remain high as Russia builds forces for a possible September offensive.
